Debate with candidate for rector will also be about MU future

An open discussion with the candidate for MU Rector will take place on Thursday 23 March at the University Cinema Scala.

The only candidate, the current Rector of Masaryk University, Martin Bareš, will present his past term of office and his vision for the future of MU at a public debate organised by the MU Academic Senate's committee for the election. The debate will take place this Thursday, 23 March at 3:30 p.m. in the Scala cinema. His presentation will be followed by an open discussion.

“I would like to invite all members of the academic community because this is really about the future of our university. Although there is only one candidate for rector, it is an opportunity to discuss the issues and proposals of each member of our academic community in public with this candidate, with rector Bareš,” said Ivan Foletti, chairman of the AS MU Commission for the election of the candidate for the post of rector. He also added that one of the priorities for the students, as shown by the questions in the IS discussion forum, is the issue of climate sustainability. “The Scala debate will be an opportunity for a comprehensive reflection on this topic, for example,” Foletti suggested.

Martin Bareš's term of office ends on 31 August 2023. The public meeting of the MU Academic Senate and the assembly of the academic community, during which the new rector will be elected in a secret ballot, will take place on 3 April at 3:00 p.m. in the Karel Engliš Auditorium located at the MU Faculty of Law. The four-year term of the newly elected Rector will begin on 1 September 2023 and end on 31 August 2027.
