European Sustainability Week at MU is back

MU is once again an active participant in the European Sustainability Week. Mobility is this year’s key topic.

Thousands of events take place every year all over Europe during the European Sustainability Week (ESW). The Czech Republic has joined in 2015. The goal of the events is to send a clear signal that we care about the future of the world we live in. The programme will once again include conferences, exhibitions, workshops, seminars, film screenings, community meetings, open days and more.

This year’s ESW is scheduled to take place on 20–26 September. However, to make the list of events longer, any programme related to sustainability can be registered for ESW as long as it is taking place between 18 September and 8 October.

MU will focus on mobility

Faculties and other MU institutions will participate through activities which are already included in the overall “Sustainability at MU” initiative, the most important of which will be mobility-related. Starting on 10 September students and employees can take part in a survey aimed at their habits regarding commuting, or the distances travelled with respect to their school-related or work-related responsibilities. The survey can be found in IS. The data related to commuting will be used, in combination with other sources, to calculate MU’s carbon footprint.

Anyone aiming to emphasise the importance of more acceptable forms of transport and the negative effects of cars in cities can take part, on 22 September, in the Car Free Day, as the final part of the European Mobility Week. The list of 2024 ESW events can be found at its dedicated website.
