The current four-year term of the Dean of the MU Faculty of Arts, Irena Radová, expires this year. She is the only candidate who has applied for the position for the upcoming 2026–2030 term.
Classical philologist Irena Radová has been working at the Institute of Classical Studies since 1999, where she primarily lectures on ancient Greek literature. Her research focuses on the epic poetry of the Hellenistic period of Greek literature and the Silver Age of Roman literature, as well as on rationalist interpretations of myths in antiquity. She was elected Dean of the Faculty of Arts in 2022. In her current programme statement, she plans to build mainly on the valuable experience gained from leading the faculty over the past four years, but intends to place greater emphasis, for example, on science and research.
„At the level of departments and teams, our goal will be to support, as much as possible, scientific work aimed at what is known as excellent research (international projects, prestigious publications, results with societal impact). In our view, project activity ideally leads to collaboration within and across departments (and counters the fragmentation of research), strives for meaningful integration of doctoral and master’s students into research, and ensures dignified conditions for academic work,“ Radová said.
A discussion between candidate Irena Radová and the Academic Senate will take place on 8 December. She will present her programme and prospective vice-deans on 15 December at 2 p.m. at a faculty-wide assembly of the academic community, which will also be attended by Rector Martin Bareš. The first and, if necessary, second round of the election will be held on 5 January 2026 at a meeting of the Academic Senate of the MU Faculty of Arts.
