Canteens to upgrade their offer for students

Soups offered separately from the “student menu” for CZK 85 with the price unchanged as well as improved selection of soups during the week, including separate soups. These are the changes MU canteens will be coming with in the spring semester of 2026.

The current “student menu” has been on the canteens’ menu since March 2024. “The last two years have shown that the demand for soup as a part of the lunch menu is very marginal. Only 10 percent of patrons actually take soup with their main dish, and even fewer of them during warmer months when a hot soup is not a meal of choice. Moreover, demand is increasing for a better choice of soups, including the more savoury ones with thicker meat base,” says Head of Canteen Management Tomáš Kala.

As of spring semester of 2026, canteens will be offering one “soup of the day” as they do now. The affordable prices will start at CZK 20, depending on the ingredients used. In addition to vegetarian and vegan gluten-free soups one extra soup will be offered three days of the week, e.g. goulash, thick broth or cabbage soup with sausage. As for main dishes, the current concept with five main dish items (two meaty dishes, one vegetarian dish, one vegan option and the everyone’s-favourite fried cheese with fries) will remain. At least one gluten-free dish will be offered as well.
