On Sunday, 8 February 2026, Orientation Week began at Masaryk University for more than 300 newly arrived international students who will spend the upcoming semester or their full degree in Brno.
A formal part of the programme was Monday’s welcome and information session at the Faculty of Economics and Administration, organised by the Centre for International Cooperation (CZS). Students received key information about their studies, administrative requirements, how the university information system works, and other practical advice.
„After the morning session, we had a lunch break during which we prepared the distribution of ISIC cards and welcome packages for the newcomers. This year, the City of Brno also joined us in the afternoon with an information stand where students could learn about places to visit for culture, coffee, or a beer,” adds Barbora Homolková, Coordinator for International Programmes.
The welcome day also included a photo booth and a tasting of traditional Czech food, helping to create a relaxed atmosphere and encourage first introductions among students from around the world.
Orientation Week continued until Friday, offering a mix of practical workshops and social events. Students took part in a sample Czech language lesson, faculty and campus tours, and evening activities such as karaoke. The informal part of the programme was traditionally organised by the student organisation ESN MU, which supports international students in integrating into the local community.
However, support for international students does not end with Orientation Week. „The Welcome Office of the Centre for International Cooperation now has a lot of paperwork ahead, as we need to sign arrival forms for everyone who has arrived. We also have to work through numerous questions regarding registration and course enrolment, as well as accommodation in the dormitories and the start of classes next week,” says Barbora Homolková.
