An even more packed programme than in the previous three years, featuring educational tours and workshops, a sports programme including a prestigious floorball derby, tastings of culinary specialities, and performances by musicians and bands. This is what MUNI DAY promises on Wednesday 13 May at the Bohunice campus.
Flow yoga or volleyball
The sports programme will kick off early in the morning with a variety of individual and group sports. Coming to the sports hall of the Faculty of Sports Studies, you can choose from flow yoga, street dance or Latin dance lessons. The martial arts hall invites you to stretch your whole body through self-defence, fitness boxing or aerial Acro Yoga. Fit Office Yoga lessons will focus on strengthening the back, whilst Pilates promises relief from prolonged sitting and back pain. In group sports, volleyball and badminton tournaments will take place.
The highlight of the sports programme will be the floorball derby at 2 pm in the Ball Sports Hall in Building E34, where a team of five faculties from the city centre, together with the Rector’s Office, will face off against a team of five faculties from the campus and the immediate vicinity. This prestigious contest, dubbed CAMPUS vs. CITY, will be accompanied by performances by the MU Majorettes and the FUKS university society, as well as half-time competitions.
Laboratory tours and lectures
Those who would prefer a quieter morning can take part in one of the themed tours, for example at the CEITEC MU laboratories or the Faculty of Science. The MU Faculty of Medicine Simulation Centre (SIMU), the most modern simulation centre in Central Europe, equipped with facilities similar to a real hospital, will once again open its doors to visitors. Those interested in blood donation can tour the various sections of the Transfusion and Tissue Department at Brno University Hospital. You can also visit the Kejbaly school garden or the university greenhouses, where you will learn more about growing plants for scientific experiments. For the very first time, the Faculty of Science’s interactive science centre, Bioskop, will also be joining the programme. Prior registration is also required for all visits to laboratories, centres and the museum.
Outdoor open-air entertainment
As well as sport and educational tours, MUNI DAY will offer a packed social programme, which will bring the car park area by the Faculty of Sports Studies to life in the afternoon. There will be a food zone with meat and vegetarian specialities, as well as the chance to unwind with a game of korfball or pétanque at the outdoor stations. From the afternoon until late evening, the atmosphere will be livened up on stage by band concerts and DJ sets.
Just like last year, Masaryk University alumni are also welcome to join the all-day programme, giving them the chance to meet up with their classmates and teachers on campus.
New: film festival
This year, the Film Festival of the Faculty of Informatics at Masaryk University will also be joining MUNI DAY for the first time. Now in its 26th year and subtitled ‘Zarezonuj’, the festival will present part of this year’s programme on campus. Screenings of short films will begin at 6.30 pm in the auditorium in Pavilion B22.
