Masaryk University has reached a significant milestone in the construction of one of its largest development projects. The MUNI BioPharma Hub, a state-of-the-art educational facility, has received final approval for occupancy, which means that students, academics and researchers will soon be able to move into the building.
“Masaryk University has kept its promise. The completion of the MUNI BioPharma Hub is good news for our university, the Czech higher education sector, and the Czech Republic as a whole. The project fulfils the commitments the Czech Republic made to the European Commission and confirms that we are capable of successfully implementing strategic investments of European significance,” said Martin Bareš, Rector of Masaryk University.
The MU Faculty of Pharmacy will begin moving into its new premises as early as August this year. Teaching and other operations at the MUNI BioPharma Hub will commence from the academic year 2026/2027. The ceremonial opening of the entire complex is scheduled for 30 November 2026.
“Obtaining the final occupancy permit confirms that the MUNI BioPharma Hub project is progressing according to the schedule. Following this milestone, the university is now entering the final phase, which will involve the relocation of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the commencement of operations. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the preparation and implementation of this exceptionally challenging project over the years,” said David Póč, Bursar of Masaryk University.
The MUNI BioPharma Hub, with total costs exceeding CZK 4 billion, is the second-largest investment project in the history of Masaryk University. The basic funding consists of a grant from the National Recovery Plan amounting to approximately CZK 3.4 billion, including funds for instrumentation and laboratory equipment. It represents a unique combination of the Faculty of Pharmacy’s modern teaching facilities and the advanced infrastructure of the Preclinical Centre and the Centre for Molecular Medicine. The new building will serve more than two thousand MU students and dozens of staff and will also enable the implementation of new study programmes at the Faculty of Pharmacy, such as Industrial Pharmacy. In addition to future pharmacists, students and doctoral candidates from other faculties – particularly the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science – and researchers from the CEITEC MU will also find space there for study, scientific training and student and PhD research projects. The MUNI BioPharma Hub will thus create a unique environment in which education, scientific training and cutting-edge research in the fields of pharmacology, molecular biology, biomedicine and other biotechnological disciplines will naturally intertwine.

They will enter an environment that offers them exceptional conditions for study and professional training. A unique space has been created on campus where future pharmacists, doctors, scientists and students from other disciplines will meet on a daily basis. It is precisely this interconnection of pharmacy, medicine and natural sciences that I consider to be one of the greatest strengths of the entire project. The MUNI BioPharma Hub will enable us to train specialists for fields that are of exceptional importance to society, both present and future – from the development and production of medicines to modern biomedical and healthcare disciplines,” added Bareš.
The building consists of two interconnected wings. The western wing, with its classrooms and lecture halls, is primarily intended for students and the Faculty of Pharmacy, whilst the eastern wing provides space for laboratory teaching, scientific work and the development of research in the fields of pharmacy and biomedicine. The MUNI BioPharma Hub is also one of the most modern and environmentally friendly university buildings in the Czech Republic. The building has three underground and five above-ground floors and was designed with an emphasis on energy efficiency and a low environmental footprint. It features photovoltaic panels and a green roof, which helps to retain rainwater and cool the building on hot summer days. The complex also includes a system of geothermal boreholes for the building’s efficient energy management.
The final occupancy permit that authorised the use of the building was issued by the Brno City Hall, Construction Department. The administrative decision confirms that the construction was carried out in accordance with the approved project documentation.
