Hockey club donates 100 thousand crowns to University for a project for autistics

Special gaming software will help children with autism spectrum disorder learn social skills.

Chairman of the Board at Kometa Egbert Zündorf gives a chceck to rector Mikuláš Bek.

This week's start of play-off in the arena of Kometa, Brno's ice hockey club, was a little surprising for the fans. The first puck in a match against PSG Zlín was dropped by Masaryk University's Rector, Mikuláš Bek, who also received a check for one hundred thousand Czech crowns. This could be done thanks to newly established cooperation between the University and the Kometa Endowment Fund.

The Fund supports a project carried out by psychologists from the Faculty of Arts, titled Newron. It is gaming software specifically developed—under the supervision of the psychologists—at the Faculty of Informatics, which helps children with autism spectrum disorder learn social skills hindered due to their illness.

Money should come, among other things, from an auction of a special series of jerseys worn by Kometa players in this match.

The first financial donation will help spread the games and equipment necessary to play them to more families. Their quantity should increase in the future, and Kometa envisages more financial support.
