MUNI Mendel Doctorandus is a new developmental programme for the most active students of doctoral studies.

Students in PhD programmes as well as future applicants, current master’s degree programme students, and their supervisors met at the PhD Day which took place in the library of the Bohunice campus on Wednesday.

Doctoral studies are often referred to as the stepping stone to career in science. As such, the programme for PhD Day was full of information about the study, dissertation project financing and opportunities for support. Top representatives of the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Social Studies and the CEITEC institute started the event off by signing a memorandum on common standards for doctoral studies.

The purpose of the memorandum is to stipulate the framework for the cooperation in the implementation of doctoral programmes and further education and development of PhD students and, as a result, maintain mutually supportive partnerships. Further, the memorandum defines the principles of cooperation and organisational matters of cooperation, as well as the status of all parties concerned within the framework of education of PhD students.

JThe measures implementing the goals of the memorandum include a new development programme for the most active PhD students – MUNI Mendel Doctorandus. “It will offer new benefits and opportunities to the best PhD students and their supervisors, including stable financial support, extension of their placement abroad and the European Doctorandus certificate,” says Luděk Bláha, Vice-Dean for Doctoral Studies of the Faculty of Science.

As Dean of the Faculty of Science Tomáš Kašparovský noted, the benefits of the new programme would not be possible without the complex cooperation of campus-based faculties and CEITEC. “Close cooperation of the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Social Studies and the CEITEC institute, and the new Faculty of Pharmacy within the MUNI Mendel Doctorandus programme has enabled the introduction and sharing of interdisciplinary courses and developmental activities guaranteeing future success in science. The memorandum serves as the final confirmation of cooperation among individual departments and teams,” the dean added.
