Masaryk University to engage police experts in teaching

A new memorandum signed by Masaryk University and the Police of the Czech Republic strengthens their long-term cooperation in education, science and research, as well as security policy.

In addition to supporting security research with technological applications in police work, the collaboration between MU and the Police will also include the involvement of police experts in teaching activities in the form of consultations and lectures. In return, Masaryk University will provide professional training for officers and civilian employees of the Czech Republic Police as part of lifelong learning programmes.

“The Memorandum will facilitate the participation of experts from various Police departments in the teaching of subjects focused on security issues. At the same time, it will open up further opportunities for cooperation in security research, particularly in relation to the worrying recent developments in cybercrime and the ways in which it can be detected and prevented. Last but not least, students from Masaryk University will be able to complete internships at selected police departments,” said Miroslav Mareš from the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University and head of the Rector’s Working Group on Security Programmes and Research.

In addition to supporting research and educational activities in the field of security research, cooperation in the field of security at Masaryk University will be strengthened, including institutional resilience, protection of soft targets, cyber security and combating disinformation.

“High value-added security fields offer great prospects for all three roles of our university. We are now increasingly concerned with the resilience and security of our university and academic community. For us, the Czech Police is therefore not only a security provider, but also a natural and important partner,” added Radim Polčák, Vice-Rector for Development, Legal & Information Technologies.
