After a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19, the informal meeting of students and deans called the Deans’ BBQ was held once again at the Bohunice University Campus. The event was organised by the Medical Student’s Association. For the first time, the Faculty of Pharmacy joined the other participating campus faculties in the event.
Students had the opportunity to meet the deans of their respective faculties outside classrooms and lecture halls and talk to them about problems they face in their studies and other issues. “It is an informal event popular among students but also among the deans themselves. The participants get a bite to eat, play sports and have a chance to talk about various things with the deans. They may complain a bit, but they can also tell them what they are happy about in their studies,” explained Kristián Kalianko, one of the organisers.
The refreshments included tortillas, grilled Hermelín cheese, sausages and beer on tap, as well as non-alcoholic lemonades. More sports-minded students could play pétanque, table tennis or spike ball, in which deans Martin Repko and Jan Cacek also partook.
The students enjoyed the good food, sports and entertainment on the campus in sunny Thursday weather. “This is my first time here and I really like it. It’s a good idea to have such an informal gathering,” said medical student Julie Kučerová about the BBQ event.
Martin Repko also had a positive opinion about the event. “It’s a nice event and a good location, too – right in the middle of the university campus. But the best thing about the Deans’ BBQ is the fact that people from different faculties can mix and socialise here. Not just individual students but also representatives of the management. After all, this has been our goal here,” said Martin Repko.
Besides himself, the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy David Vetchý, the dean of the Faculty of Sports Studies Jan Cacek, the vice-dean Hana Svatoňová standing in for the dean of the Faculty of Science Tomáš Kašparovský, also participated in this year’s Deans’ BBQ. Together, they invited the participating students to enjoy the lovely Thursday afternoon as well as their studies at Masaryk University.
