President appoints new professors, eight of them from MU

On Wednesday, 21 June, Czech President Petr Pavel personally conferred appointment decrees on new professors in the Great Hall of the Karolinum in Prague. He appointed a total of 93 professors, including two female professors and six professors on the basis of a proposal by the MU Scientific Board.

Czech President Petr Pavel appointed a total of 93 new professors in the Great Hall of the Karolinum in Prague. Eight of them are from MU.

“The awarding of a professorship is the recognition of the abilities of those who have gone furthest on the path of science and higher education. I believe that each of you will contribute to making Czech universities a place of opportunity, where young and talented people can develop their abilities,” said President Pavel, as quoted on the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic website.

The procedure for appointing new professors may take place at a higher education institution that has an accredited doctoral study programme within the framework of which the field of the appointment or at least a substantial part thereof is taught. It is also necessary that the university or a part thereof has a valid accreditation for the appointment procedure. Of the new professors who have successfully passed the appointment procedure at Masaryk University, five work directly at MU. Three other new MU professors were appointed by the President on the basis of a proposal by the Research Board of Charles University. Masaryk University therefore has eight new professors.
