The Dean of Masaryk University´s Faculty of Science for the next four years has been elected Luděk Bláha

In the second round of elections, Luděk Bláha, the current Vice Dean for Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of Science, was elected as the candidate for Dean of the Faculty of Science. He received 18 out of 26 votes.

Luděk Bláha, Vice-Dean for Doctoral Studies of the Faculty of Science, became the candidate for Dean.

The Academic Senate of the Faculty of Science selected the candidate for dean on Monday, 20 October, from three names. Luděk Bláha, Michal Bulant and Karel Kubíček were seeking the position of dean. All three graduated from the Faculty of Science and work there.

The election was a two-round election, because in the first round none of the candidates received the necessary supermajority of votes of all senators, of which the faculty has 27.

The second round of the election, in which Luděk Bláha and Michal Bulant advanced, followed after a short break. Luděk Bláha won the first round, receiving 18 of the 26 senators who voted.

“I thank the senators for their trust, this is a new stage for me. I want the faculty to be an internationally recognizable place for the best scientists and motivated students as well as for satisfied employees in the next four years,” Bláha said after the election.

The new dean will replace Tomáš Kašparovský, whose second term of office ends on 31 January 2026. The candidate for dean of the MU Faculty of Science must be appointed to the post by the university´s rector, Martin Bareš.
