Phylogeny and Diversity of Algae and Fungi – this is the name of the course that helped Barbora Chattová win the Rector’s Award for Outstanding Teachers. But it was not so much her expertise that led to her success, but rather her empathetic approach to students.

On Wednesday, the MU hockey team defeated the VUT Cavaliers 4-3 for their first win in two years. The fourth annual University Hockey Duel also proved popular with students, with the arena sold out 10 days before the game.

Masaryk University today awarded the honorary degree of doctor honoris causa to two personalities who have shown a long-standing interest in the development of the university and whose creative contributions to the development of science, culture and the arts are internationally recognised.

Masaryk University has produced a new video ad to promote itself abroad. Tuhina Mishra, a student with Japanese and Indian roots who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine this year, played the lead role.

The current THE World University Rankings include 2,092 institutions from 115 countries, 188 more than last year. Masaryk University scored higher than last year in 17 out of 18 indicators and maintained its overall 601-800th ranking position despite increasing competition.

From achievements and successes in international rankings, to presenting awards to excellent faculty members and notable personalities linked to the development of the university, to reference to weaknesses and room for improvement – these were the key topics of the ceremony held for the opening of the 2024/2025 academic year.

In 2025 the Support Centre for Students with Special Needs will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The newly appointed head of the centre Boris Janča discusses the accomplishments of the university in the area of equal treatment and his plans with the centre for the future.

There are not many summer schools in Europe, or even in the world, that focus on cremation. However, just such a summer school has been held at Masaryk University for the second time. And as a last year, the teachers included a cremation as an experiment in the programme.

This year's Researchers’ Night on the last Friday in September attracted a total of 7,458 visitors to Masaryk University. The event was held at eight places in Brno and at the University Centre Telč.

The Common University Courses system was introduced at MU in autumn 2024 and means that most students in Bachelor’s and long-cycle Master’s programmes are now required to take a CORE course.
